Windows
and Doors - Reasons for replacing
windows or doors?
We all know that the purchase of
a house-full of windows, doors or
a conservatory is a big decision,
and if done for the right reasons
it will not just do wonders for
the looks and character of your
home, but should also keep your
home warm during the long winter
months (well, spring, summer and
autumn on some nights in England!).
Of course, it should improve the
security of your property as well
as providing you with windows that
actually work properly and open
- we all remember trying to smack
open a window that had been painted
shut! Needless to say, there are
times when it would be possible
to repair smaller problems or when
loss of just a key for a window
is not enough reason alone to buy
double-glazing! But there are some
pretty important arguments that
are!
The following lists most of these
issues. If you can see a couple
or more of them that apply to you,
then it maybe worth your while investing
in double-glazed home improvements:
Failure or breakage of
part of the window
Windows that can no longer open,
close or fit properly, or have faulty
locks, handles or hinges.
Poor security
Whenever security is compromised
by poor, single locks or weak, breakable
areas.
Rotting, warping, rusting
or peeling
When frames are so bad that a straightforward
repair job would never be enough.
Or when you have to paint frames
every couple of years or plane off
warped and rubbing areas.
Draughty and cold
Traditional wooden, single-glazed
windows are one of the highest contributors
for strong drafts and high heating
bills - do your curtains move when
wind gets up? This factor also sometimes
leads to windows frequently running
with condensation.
Wanting a home makeover
Want to change the way your home
looks? Windows, doors or conservatories
are one of the most noticeable areas
of your home. This would also provide
you with the opportunity to design
your windows the way you want them
to work so this time you can reach
the handle and clean the outside
of the glass without having to scale
the outside walls!
Investment in home improvement
to property
Upgrading your windows, doors will
repay you many times over in warmth,
bills and comfort of mind. But,
have you ever thought what it may
do to the value of your property
- this is what estate agents call
'kerb appeal' (and we haven't even
mentioned 'keeping up with the Jones'!)
